“Sick and Tired” of Feeling “Sick and Tired” about Being Overweight

Last January I woke up one day and decided it was time for a change. I was literally sick and tired of being overweight and out of shape. I weighed 285 lbs. and felt pain in my knees and ankles while huffing and puffing as I walked up the stairs.

A Time for Change
It was a strange time in my life as I had moved to Connecticut for my wife’s job in the fall. Needless to say, I was mentally READY for a change.

After coercion and persistence from Jenn, I signed up to take some classes at SHiFT Cycling. Our boys played football and EVERY time I saw her she told me to come to the studio to try it and that cycling would make a huge difference in my life.  I didn’t really believe her but agreed to try.

Stepping up to the Challenge
She was right, not only did I like it, I loved it. I committed to riding three times a week. At the same time, SHiFT launched 6 week challenge in January that I joined. It gave me the added incentive to change my diet, add some strength training and to really FINALLY really try to lose the weight.  It was inspiring.

Time to SHiFT
Riding at SHiFT was the one thing that made me feel like I was doing something. Sometimes I didn’t want to go, but I always got my BUTT there. When class was done, I was SO glad I did it.  it is a fun and efficient way to burn a ton of calories  quickly (600+ in an hour!).

Aside from the tough workout, SHiFT gives support.  Jenn and her team of instructors deliver motivation during class that pushes you further.  They also stayed on top of me off the bike to make sure I was on track. I felt like I was an part of a community that really cared about my health and my journey.

Goal Completed
I am happy to say during the challenge I lost 25 lbs. My BMI went from 38.4 to 27.3 and I lost a total of 9.5 inches. Five months later, I continue to build muscle and lose fat.  I still eat better and no longer “huff and puff” up the stairs.  Thanks Jenn Kuehn and SHiFT Cycling making me take on the weight loss challenge.  I can honestly say I am no longer “sick and tired”!  In fact, I feel great.

And, my story was featured on WTNH as a part of the New Haven studio opening.  Check it out.

In closing, I would like to say you MUST have an inspiration to make the change and you HAVE to want it… NOBODY can tell you to do this!  If you are ready, talk to Jenn.  She can give you the road map and encouragement to make it happen.  I am sure glad I did.
