The vision

SHiFT Cycling and Balance started with a vision to create workout experiences that are accessible yet challenging to everyone, no matter where they are in their fitness journey. We set out to create an inspirational and motivational experience focused on a greater connection between mind and body. By exchanging the traditional health club for a small group training format for functional training, we’ve built a confidence boosting, judgment-free, no-nonsense environment for effective workouts.

How it all got started

Jenn Kuehn began SHiFT Cycling with a vision to create a workout experience that is accessible yet challenging to everyone, no matter where they are in their fitness levels. She left the high-powered world of corporate sales to create an inspirational local fitness experience. With an impressive background as a competitive athlete and trainer, she ventured out on her own to make a difference.

Jenn filled an industrial space with simple fitness equipment to create the “non-gym” of choice for Shoreliners. She exchanged the traditional health club experience for a small group training format focused on functional training. In less than a year, Jenn built a reputation for inspiring effective workouts in a judgment-free, no-nonsense environment.

Still sensing a missing need, Jenn searched for a greater connection between mind and body, inspiration and motivation. She launched SHiFT Cycling in March 2014 to fill that void in her and within the community. Our members experience an intense yet approachable cardio workout on state-of-the-art bikes and with the best cycling instructors in the industry to SHiFT them physically and mentally.

By March 2015, Jenn and the team evolved and opened SHiFT New Haven. The city’s first indoor cycling studio is located blocks from the New Haven Green.

After Jenn launched SHiFT Cycling Guilford & New Haven, the team realized that their members needed more than just cycling to connect their physical, emotional and spiritual being. We live in a fast paced world and are pulled in a million different directions between family, our careers and everything in between. In October 2015, SHiFT Balance, a range of fitness experiences from Yoga, Barre, Kickboxing, Strength Training, and more, was established downstairs in their Guilford location, creating a space where the community could find balance!

Our lives are always changing and so should our fitness routine. We are the Shoreline’s only boutique fitness studio offering this variety of cycling and fitness classes dedicated to meeting the goals of our members, and SHiFTing them to be the best they can be!

The dynamic SHiFT team continues to deliver an unexpected, intense and fun workout experience in their current studios while looking to expand to additional markets. Tell us now where you would like to see a SHiFT studio!
